The back-to-school sales tax holiday is this weekend (Aug. 5-7). Certain school-related items will be tax-exempt and local shoppers will not pay the 9.0% sales tax charged on those items in Tuscaloosa County.
Items exempt include:
- Clothing suitable for general wear costing up to $100 per item
- Computers, computer supplies and software (excludes computer games) costing up to $750
- School supplies costing up to $50 per item
- Books costing up to $30 per item
