Reminder: Meet and Greet This Sunday and Monday. See You Then!

Verner Elementary will Meet and Greet its students for the 2016-2017 school year on the following dates/times:

Sunday, August 7th

  • Grades K, 1, 2: “drop by” between 4:30-5:30
  • Pre-K: anytime between 5:30-6:30

Monday, August 8th

  • Grades 3, 4, 5: “drop by” between 4:30-5:30

Join us at your assigned time so that students can meet their teacher, greet their new classmates, and bring their school supplies. Information about class assignments should have been received in the mail this week. While at Meet and Greet, parents can join the PTA VIP program, volunteer for one of the PTAs committees, pay classroom fees, and many other things to prepare families for the beginning of the school year. See you then!

On behalf of the Verner Elementary PTA, we would like to thank everyone for their contributions toward making the 2015-2016 school year such a success. Thank you to …

  • our students for their hard work, dedication, community spirit, and positive attitudes;
  • SCA and its sponsors for demonstrating leadership;
  • our parents for supporting and encouraging our students;
  • Principal Beth Curtis and our faculty and staff for providing our students with wonderful educational opportunities;
  • our volunteers for giving countless hours to make our activities and events possible;
  • our Adopt-A-School Partners for their involvement and contributions;
  • area businesses for sponsoring numerous school-related efforts (VTI Sponsors, Spring Fling Sponsors, TCBY Yogurt Fridays, and so many more);
  • our VIP members for funding all of our PTA projects as well as some of the necessities for our students; and
  • PTA President Elizabeth Bearden and our PTA board for all of their planning and hard work that makes each year special.

We wish our graduating 5th graders the BEST as they move on to middle school and we look forward to welcoming everyone else back on August 11 for another fabulous year. HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!!

Shopping with a Purpose

As you shop this holiday season (or anytime, actually), please consider the following ways to shop and help the Verner PTA, our schools, and our community.

Shopping Amazon.com: If you are shopping on Amazon.com, you can earn cash for the Verner Elementary PTA with each purchase. Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to Verner Elementary PTA whenever you shop on AmazonSmile. AmazonSmile is the same as Amazon. Same products, same prices, same Amazon Prime benefits.

Support Verner PTA by starting your shopping at smile.amazon.com. Follow these steps to establish Verner PTA as your Charitable Organization for all future purchases made through AmazonSmile:

  • Login with your Amazon email and password (or create an Amazon account if you don’t already have one). This will take you to the “Select a Charitable Organization to Start Shopping” page.
  • Enter Verner Elementary in the “pick your own charitable organization” box.
  • Verner Elementary PTA will appear. Click the Select button.
  • Start shopping.

Shopping Local: If you are purchasing in-store, make your purchases from stores located in Tuscaloosa County. Local purchases contribute 1.8% of sales tax to our local public school systems and purchases from locally-owned businesses support our friends and community leaders.

PTA/Open House This Thursday (9/10)

Verner’s first PTA meeting of the school year and Open House is scheduled for this Thursday, September 10. Parents will have an opportunity to visit their child’s classroom, meet their teachers, and begin the parent/teacher relationship.  Parents will learn about the plans and expectations for the 2015-2016 school year and opportunities to volunteer. Parents may also pay their classroom donation and join our VIP program.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 5:30 – 6:15     Classroom visits for K, 1st, 2nd
  • 6:30 – 7:00     General PTA meeting in multi-purpose room for parents in all grades (K-5)
  • 7:15 – 8:00     Classroom visits in 3rd, 4th, and 5th

IMPORTANT ITEMS REGARDING OPEN HOUSE

  1. This evening will not allow time for individual parent/teacher conferences; however, parents will be given an opportunity to sign up for their first teacher conference when participating in classroom visits.
  2. This is NOT an event that should include children – child care will not be available.  Hopefully, you have time to make arrangements for your children to remain at home. (And there should not be any homework on this night.)
